Choosing the Best Location for Your Starlink Dish

Learn how sky visibility, trees, rooflines, cable length, safe access, and appearance influence professional dish placement.

A clear view matters most

Starlink communicates with satellites moving across a large portion of the sky. A location that looks open in one direction may still have interruptions from trees, roof peaks, chimneys, or nearby buildings. The Starlink app can help screen possible locations, but the entire installation plan matters.

The bracket places the dish above the roof edge while the cable follows the outside of the house. Check the attachment and sky view for the actual property.

Look beyond today's tree cover

Deciduous trees may appear harmless during winter and become major obstructions when leaves return. Branch movement, future growth, and neighboring trees should be considered. In wooded rural areas, gaining height or selecting another side of the property may produce a more dependable result.

Balance signal and cable routing

The highest point is not automatically the best point. A dish location also needs secure mounting, safe installation access, a supported cable path, and a reasonable entry point near the router. Long, exposed, or sharply bent cable routes can create unnecessary risk.

Consider future maintenance

Roof replacement, gutter work, siding work, tree trimming, and seasonal cleaning may affect an installed system. Select a location that provides a strong view of the sky without creating avoidable problems for future property maintenance.

When a site survey helps

Properties with dense trees, steep terrain, several buildings, limited roof access, or no obvious cable route may benefit from a dedicated site survey. A survey identifies realistic placement and routing options before installation equipment or labor is committed.
