How Starlink Site Surveys Work and When You Need One

A site survey can resolve difficult obstruction, access, mounting, and routing questions before committing to installation.

What a site survey answers

A site survey is a focused property evaluation completed before installation. It determines whether a dependable dish location is available, which mounting options are realistic, how the cable may reach the router, and what access or equipment challenges should be planned for.

Properties that benefit most

Dense tree cover, mountain terrain, steep or inaccessible roofs, several buildings, metal structures, very long cable routes, strict no-penetration requirements, and no obvious router entry point are common reasons to request a survey.

The obstruction review

Possible dish locations are evaluated for a broad view of the sky. Current conditions, seasonal leaf growth, rooflines, nearby structures, and practical mounting height are considered.

Mounting and cable planning

The survey identifies structurally reasonable mount locations and maps a likely cable route. It can also reveal whether special hardware, additional cable planning, a pole, or a custom approach may be needed.

Roof clearance

The bracket places the dish above the roof edge while the cable follows the outside of the house. Check the attachment and sky view for the actual property.

What happens next

After the survey, the customer has clearer information about feasibility and likely installation scope. A survey does not guarantee service performance, but it reduces avoidable surprises and helps create a more accurate plan.
