What is StarTether?+
StarTether is an independent app and website that helps Starlink owners understand connection results, plan installations, read practical Field Guides, save system information, find installation professionals, and request business quotes.
Is StarTether affiliated with Starlink or SpaceX?+
No. StarTether is an independent resource and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Starlink or SpaceX. Official account, billing, activation, warranty, service, and equipment decisions must be handled by Starlink.
Is StarTether free?+
Browsing the website and creating a customer account are free. The iPhone app is in beta testing; the public App Store listing and final app purchase price will be announced at launch. Business directory subscriptions are separate: $15 per month or $100 per year.
Does StarTether replace the official Starlink app?+
No. The official Starlink app remains necessary for activation, official obstruction scanning, account management, support, hardware alerts, and Starlink-controlled settings. StarTether adds independent guidance, diagnostics, planning tools, Field Guides, and installer discovery.
What does a StarTether System Check measure?+
A System Check can evaluate internet reachability and measurements such as download, upload, latency, jitter, loaded latency, and confidence. Results are influenced by the test server, phone, Wi-Fi, local traffic, and Starlink connection and should be treated as a diagnostic snapshot rather than a service guarantee.
Can I use one account on the website and mobile app?+
Yes. One account connects installer favorites, supported diagnostic records, notifications, and quote activity. Some information remains local to the app; see the saved-information answers below.
What information can I save in My Starlink Systems?+
On the website, you can save basic quote contact details and multiple Starlink configurations, associate diagnostic history with a system, and share relevant details in a quote request. Never enter your Starlink password, full payment details, or other sensitive credentials in notes.
What can be saved as a Favorite?+
The website saves installer listings and Field Guides to your account. Installer favorites connect across the app and website. The current app keeps its Field Guide favorites on the device.
How does StarTether use my location?+
Location can support nearby installer searches and location-aware tools when permission is granted in the mobile app. The website does not request browser location, and manual ZIP code and state search remain available. Review Account Settings to clear synchronized location data.
Does StarTether sell personal information?+
StarTether’s Privacy Policy states that personal information is not sold. Service providers may process information needed for authentication, payments, email, hosting, mapping, analytics, and diagnostics.
How do I request account help or deletion?+
Use the Contact Us form and select the account, sign-in, or privacy reason that best matches the request. Use the email address connected to the account so the team can identify the correct record.
How do I find a Starlink installer?+
Open Find an Installer and search by ZIP code and radius, browse a selected state, or choose Nationwide. Results can include local, regional, and nationwide businesses based on their published coverage.
Does StarTether employ or guarantee listed installers?+
No. Listings are independent businesses. Customers should confirm identity, insurance, licensing where applicable, credentials, scope, pricing, availability, and payment terms directly before hiring.
What does Highlight, Featured, or Sponsored mean?+
These labels identify enhanced or promotional directory placement. They do not by themselves mean that StarTether guarantees workmanship, pricing, licensing, or customer satisfaction.
How do quote requests work?+
A signed-in customer selects Request a Quote on a listing and shares the saved Starlink & Information summary with that business. The business can respond with service estimates, pricing, and additional details. Customers can accept or deny the returned quote and then coordinate directly with the installer.
Does requesting a quote create a contract?+
No. A StarTether quote request is an information exchange. The customer and business must confirm final scope, materials, scheduling, travel, payment terms, insurance, and any binding agreement directly.
How can I report an inaccurate or concerning listing?+
Open the business details and use the red Report option. Select a reason and provide enough information for an administrator to review. Reports should be factual and submitted in good faith.
How much does a StarTether Business listing cost?+
StarTether Business is $15 per month or $100 per year. The annual plan saves $80 compared with paying monthly for 12 months. Either plan lets an eligible account publish and manage one professional listing. Listings publish automatically once the business name, contact details, services, and coverage are saved and Business membership is active. No administrator approval is needed. Promotional visibility or future higher tiers may have separate pricing.
How will I know when the iPhone app launches?+
Visit the App Launch Updates page and confirm your email to receive public-launch news. The app is in beta testing; joining the update list does not automatically provide TestFlight access. We will link the public App Store listing when it is available.
Are guide favorites and systems identical on the website and app?+
The website supports multiple saved systems and account-based guide saves. The current app keeps its guide favorites on the device. Installer favorites, supported diagnostic records, and quote activity use the connected account. Do not assume every local tool record or preference is synchronized.
Can I keep a quote after it is removed?+
Open a quote in your account and use Download record or Print. Accepted quotes include the conversation available at the time of export. Save the record before its removal date; downloading does not extend the seven-day retention period.
What should I do if Starlink is offline?+
Check power, securely seated cables, router and power-supply indicators, the official Starlink app, and known service alerts. Avoid repeated factory resets before recording the symptoms. If hardware or account alerts appear, contact official Starlink Support.
Why can Starlink be online but still feel slow?+
The cause may be Wi-Fi coverage, device limits, local network traffic, congestion, weather, obstructions, test-server choice, or the Starlink connection itself. Compare a router-side test with the problem location and review latency and loaded latency—not only download speed.
How much open sky does Starlink need?+
Starlink needs a broad, unobstructed field of view because it tracks moving low-Earth-orbit satellites. Use the official Starlink app’s Check for Obstructions tool at the exact proposed location before installing.
Can I point Starlink in the same direction as a satellite-TV dish?+
Not reliably. Starlink alignment is determined for its satellite network and location, not the fixed direction used by traditional satellite television. Follow the alignment tool for current manual hardware or allow actuated hardware to position itself.
Can Standard, Mini, and Performance mounts or cables be interchanged?+
Generally no. Starlink states that mounts and accessories are specific to hardware families. Identify the exact generation and use its current official accessory guide before ordering or modifying equipment.
Where can I find the KIT number?+
Look on the original kit box or shipping label for an identifier beginning with KIT. Logged-in users may also find hardware identifiers in the Starlink app or account. Do not post the complete identifier publicly.
What is the difference between Residential and Roam?+
Residential is intended for a registered fixed service address. Roam is designed for supported portable use under the selected plan’s current mobility, country, data, and in-motion rules. Availability and terms can change, so verify them in the Starlink account.
When should I contact Starlink instead of StarTether?+
Contact official Starlink Support for billing, activation, account access, service-plan changes, transfers, warranty claims, replacement hardware, official outages, and Starlink-controlled settings. Contact StarTether for its app, website, accounts, directory, Field Guides, business listings, and StarTether quote tools.
