What to Do With Starlink During a Home Renovation
Protect service and equipment when remodeling affects walls, ceilings, electrical circuits, router rooms, cable routes, or exterior work.
Identify every part the renovation may touch
Starlink includes more than the dish. Trace the outdoor cable, entry point, hidden pathway, power supply, router, Ethernet connections, mesh units, and connected equipment. Mark them on the renovation plan so demolition crews do not discover the route with a saw or pry bar.
Decide whether service must remain available
Remote work, cameras, alarms, payment systems, and temporary construction offices may require connectivity throughout the project. Discuss outages and temporary equipment placement before demolition. A loose terminal on a debris-covered job site is not an acceptable continuity plan.
Protect or remove equipment before demolition
Disconnect power in a controlled order, label every cable, cover equipment from dust, and store components away from paint, moisture, heat, and impact. Never bury a connector behind new drywall or allow a cable to be stapled, kinked, or mixed into demolition waste.
Use renovation access to improve the network
Open walls can allow conduit, Ethernet, better router placement, ceiling access points, and protected routes that were previously impractical. Plan for ventilation and accessible power. Avoid moving the router into a metal cabinet merely because the wiring is hidden there.
Coordinate exterior changes
Additions, porches, chimneys, dormers, and new rooflines can enter the dish's field of view or block the cable path. Recheck obstructions from the planned final structure. A location that worked before construction may no longer be dependable.
Test before closing every wall
Inspect and test pathways while access remains open. Confirm cable continuity, power, router location, Ethernet links, and equipment startup before final paint and trim. Save photographs and measurements of concealed routes for future repairs.
