Plan before walls and trenches close

Choose candidate dish positions using a sky check, then plan the full compatible terminal route to power and networking equipment. Keep the router's useful indoor position separate from the easiest cable entry. Record future trees, rooflines and additions that could block the view.

Assign responsibility

Do not assume an electrician, builder and network installer each expects someone else to complete the final connection.

Project checkpoints

1. Design: agree on dish candidates, route, indoor coverage and equipment locations.
2. Rough-in: verify clear openings, supports and access before pulling the final cable.
3. Before closing: photograph routes with measurements and confirm the future connector can pass through.
4. Completion: inspect seals and supports, activate the kit and test the actual rooms and devices.

Conduit is a replaceable pathway, not a guarantee against water. Choose materials and installation details appropriate to the conditions.

Additions and detached buildings

An addition can obstruct an existing dish even if no Starlink equipment is moved. Recheck the sky plan against the finished structure. For a garage or barn, decide on fiber, Ethernet or a point-to-point bridge and local Wi-Fi; extending the terminal cable is not automatically the correct solution.

Keep equipment labels, as-built photos and responsibility contacts together. These records make later repairs and upgrades possible without opening walls just to discover where a cable goes.
